The Pest side of Budapest
Budapest is the largest city in Hungary and is cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It is the capital and commercial center of the country. Budapest was formed in 1873 when they combined the city of Buda, on the west side of the Danube, with Pest on the East.
City Park of Budapest
The park was built in 1896 to celebrate the 1000 years since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin in 895. The Vajdahunyad Castle was originally built of cardboard and wood to represent buildings found during different time periods in Hungary, in several different styles; Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. The castle became so popular they had to rebuild it out of brick and stone in 1904.
Heros' Square
In the center of Heros' Square are statues of the leaders of the seven tribes that founded Hungary in the 9th century.
